As I began my journey of self-discovery during the last year, I came to realise that there were many parts of me, my skills, my dreams, my values that had over the years faded into the distance due to the struggles of trying to make ends meet and having to drive my business so hard. I simply had no time to enjoy the things that really made me, me! To my surprise it has been as a result of my journey into the digital online business world that these elements of my self-discovery have re-emerged.
Having operated my own limited company for over 25years, I have gained many skills during my career in Railway Engineering, however the world of the internet has remained largely a mystery to me. Whilst my wife has become an expert buyer on the internet I have puzzled for many years how do we get our railway consultancy website up the google rankings and actually make some money out of it! It has mystified me and there is so much noise out there in the world of internet marketing that I have largely ignored it.
Yet in the space of a few short months, since joining the Launch You programme I have embarked on an amazing journey of self-development and learning the secrets of successful internet marketing. Launch You promise that if you follow their blueprint you can launch your own online business in 60-90days. I took exactly the same approach with this new challenge in my life as I did my fitness, to do something every single day towards my goal. I threw myself into the training modules and also took full advantage of the brilliant mentors to guide me on my way. I realised that it was not so much me investing in a programme to learn a few techniques about internet marketing, rather I was investing in my own self development. I cannot believe how much this has accelerated my journey into this amazing digital world. Incidentally, I didn’t manage to launch my business in 60-90days, I did in just 28days and went on to make my first sale 8days later and my first $1000 in less than 26days! That was from knowing absolutely nothing about selling online! I am now developing my own brand to grow my own authority website. I cannot tell you how excited I am about my self-development, my self-discovery and the financial rewards that I know will follow. The sky is the limit!
Another thing I realised on my journey of self-discovery was that I had many dormant skills and indeed dreams that I had lost along my journey of life. I have been so caught up in running my limited company I had lost site of the things in me that really make me tick. My music for example. I loved playing the clarinet and saxophone but life has just been too busy to spend much enjoying this. Also my wife and I use to have a huge passion partnering with amazing charity projects in India. We used to travel every year leading teams of volunteers to experience the extraordinary rewards of working and helping some of the poorest people in the world. Again, due to the busyness of life we let this dream fade away.
Yet through this journey of self-discovery, these are just two of my dreams that have been re-birthed. I took a remarkable visit back to India just last October with my 18 year old son, reconnecting with our partners in rural India. I know as I develop my internet business and release more time freedom, I will once again travel regularly to India with my wife and family, and taking teams again making a positive impact in the world - living a dream that we had lost.
Similarly I dusted off the cobwebs of my clarinet and performed a beautiful piece for a Christmas service that was aired online last Christmas. This will also form a re-vitalised part of my future as I have more time enjoy this. I also played the piano as a young person and in the last few months set myself the challenge to relearn a piece I used to play - Bach’s ‘Toccata and Fugue’. I have then taken it out and performed at London railway stations St Pancras, Kings Cross, Derby and on a real pipe organ and London Bridge station. I also found a full powerful pipe organ in my local church and performed the piece – the fulfilment of a 40 year dream.
These are just two areas of my life that already have been re-birthed in the last year and I know there will be many more. What an exciting journey – remembering the things that make me me and having the time to re-discover them and to fly like and eagle! The view will be unbelievable!
